The European Trade Union Confederation was set up in 1973 to promote the interests of working people at the European level and to represent them in the European Union institutions. It is recognized by the European Union, the Council of Europe, and the European Free Trade Association as the only representative cross-sectoral trade union organization at the European level.
Some countries, such as Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and the other Nordic countries, have strong, centralized unions, where every type of industry has a specific union, which are then gathered in large national union confederations. The largest union confederation in Europe is the German Confederation of Trade Unions.
On the other hand we have the trade unions in Colombia, where it appears just represent the interests of a few, because factors such as corruption havent left prosper many of these important organizations that in occasions not even oversee the main purpose of why they were created, to seek the best for the workers. Because of this and the various problems that our country has passed, we also find that here have been persecuted union leaders, so that a large number of these have been killed.
